Eve Wood - Winning 50m Butterfly Gold at home!

“I would say winning the 50m Butterfly. I had set myself the target of doing well in that event - my friends, family and coaches all knew that – particularly as I was seeded first in the event for the Games.

“When I touched the board, turned around and realised that I had won, the pure shock on my face was something that I’ll never forget. It was a moment to realise that all of the hard work was worth it, if you set your mind to it. There’s a great picture from Euan Duff of the moment I’d won which shows it brilliantly. (as shown above!)

“I’m not really a big cryer, but once I touched the board and knew what had happened, I was absolutely sobbing that I had actually done it - I went to my Mum and was tearful there too!

“I was just so happy that I’d be able to win, especially in front of the whole of Orkney. As a swimming teacher, a lot of the kids I teach were also in the venue watching me compete; so for them to see someone they can look up to and know what can be achieved is something that can hopefully inspire them in the future.”
