“I was involved as Head Marshal in the Island Games and several fantastic memories from it. ?I’ve never seen Orkney buzz like it, ever. The atmosphere was fantastic. Everybody got behind the whole thing. ?The Opening ceremony was extremely emotional when we were walking down towards the cathedral from Bignold Park, wall to wall Orkney flags, people cheering and the teams walking through. I’ve never been so proud to be an Orcadian in my entire life. And I went to see most of the cycling sports. And for me, the criterium round the centre of Kirkwall was absolutely tremendous. I don’t think anybody in Orkney has ever seen anything like that before. ?And it was just fantastic the way we got behind the local participants, brilliant, and also the triathlon in Stromness, the weather was fantastic and the whole games was just brilliant.”
