Vicky Kerr

I am Vicky here and I’m the Team Manager for Libraries and Archives here in Orkney. For us, from a professional point of view, at the library there was such a buzz in the community that it was a really great experience for us to be able to decorate in the foyer and in the front with the Island Games banners and some of the merchandise. And just to be able to feel like we were part of the Games and all the kind of fun and lead up to it.

From a personal point of view, we had some of the cycle racing that was going past the library so we knew that was on and a lot of staff would dash out. When you see it on the television, I don’t think you appreciate how fast they go and then it was until we were all stood there and they all zoomed past.

But what was really great was just the amount of people that was out cheering everyone on. It was just a really, really good atmosphere. And as I’m sure everyone else has said the weather was absolutely spectacular. So it encouraged people to get out and about and I think just the opportunity to see sports that you don’t generally see everyday life was brilliant and it just encouraged people to be a bit more active.
